Company History:

Brian R. Smith, Veritas’ founder, incorporated the company in August 2004, in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a result of Omnicare’s acquisition of Pharmco, earlier that month.  Mr. Smith, served as Pharmco’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing for 3 years. Pharmco was one of the nations largest independent Long-Term Care (LTC) pharmacy providers, serving more than 19,000 residents in 180 facilities in 5 states.

Veritas’ concept developed as the result of an Omnicare customer, transitioning to Pharmco, and then receiving notice that Omnicare would be servicing their facility once again.  No longer employed by Pharmco, Mr. Smith exceeded the call of service to his client and, under his supervision, the nursing home exercised its contracts out clause, evaluated prospective pharmacy vendors, then signed a new contract on terms much more favorable than if they had negotiated them independently.   Ultimately, saving the nursing home $ thousands per month and increasing administrative efficiencies.

And that is when Mr. Smith had that "eureka moment", when he realized that nursing homes need an advocate, someone who can effectively communicate their needs while understanding the intricacies of pharmacy operations. This moment of empirical insight created an opportunity to represent the nursing home in every aspect of their pharmacy initiative and planning.

Veritas went on to sign its first service agreement in November 2004, with a multi-facility, multi-state, nursing home provider.

Today, Veritas has expanded its service offerings through its new relationship with ProActive Rx, LLC and has grown to service more than 260 facilities in 19 states.
